Nitro Mocha Coffee Cocktail

If you could choose city or country life, which would you go for? Alex loves the thought of living on a mountaintop, or on a remote farm or lake house. I could handle it for about a week, but there is something about being connected to the heart of the city, thriving businesses, food, shops, and most of all people, that I yearn for. And as I played out Alex’s mountaintop dream in my head, my distinct thought was, “How could I give up walking to coffee?

A new independent coffee shop has moved into our neighborhood and it has quickly become one of my favorite activities. Saturday mornings are perfect for strolling to get coffee. A dear friend and I have started a weekly quick coffee date before I head to my office. My parents are in town — why not walk to get coffee and scones and chat overlooking the busy street? It’s a sunny afternoon — iced coffee, anyone? It was at said coffee shop that I had my first nitro cold brew, a coffee infused with nitrogen to give it a rich, creamy taste. (It was love at first sip.) The place is homey and centrally located for meeting my favorite vibrant and delightful city people. So while coffee in itself sounds like a silly reason to forgo mountaintop living, you can see how this particular coffee experience embodies everything I love about the city: people, food, innovation, tastes, authenticity, community, love.

It’s with these warm and fuzzy feelings that I drink nitro cold brew, a coffee experience that absolutely lives up to the hype, if you ask me. And this nitro mocha coffee cocktail is ode to that sentiment! Califia Farms asked us to make a cocktail using their new nitro-infused cold brew coffee latte product, which is dairy-free with almond milk and packaged in a fancy aluminum recyclable bottle. We’ve combined the mocha flavor of the nitro latte with spiced rum, orange bitters, and a bit of maple syrup for a refreshing cocktail drink. (To me it’s a bit reminiscent of a White Russian, even though it has very different components.) To keep the effervescence of the nitrogen bubbles, we’ve poured in the nitro coffee at the very end, and topped it off with a cocoa-rimmed glass.

It’s got all the coffee feels, if you ask me.

Hangry?
